Does anybody know any good black and white films, or old movies?

I recently seen a movie with Audrey Hepburn that came out in 1961. I am only 19, and it was the first black, and white movie i saw. I really enjoyed it. Does anyone know any other old movies that i can watch. I am looking for drama, or horror.

Im moving to Los Angeles to try to become an actress…where can i find auditions for films and movies?

April 232010

I also know that many actors lie on the resume about their interests and hobbies – do the casting directors check all the info? Also what is the normal protocol for a film audition? Any help would be great!!!! Thanks everyone!!!!

I’m an LA Actor giving you the REAL DEAL!

NEVER LIE! This is a small world. It will hurt you.

Here are some tips to help you on your acting journey:

1.EDUCATE YOURSELF FIRST!

READ (check Samuel French, libraries, and bookstores):

2.GET TRAINING!

Regardless of how "talented" you might be, you NEED training, PERIOD!

Best schools in LA:
Cold Reading/Auditioning
-Margie Haber
-Brian Reise
-Amy Lyndon

Commercials
-Hey, I Saw Your Commercial!
-Chris Game
-Stuart K. Robinson

-Killian McHugh
-Francine Selkirk-Akerman
-Carolyne Barry

Improv (All four are great)
-Groundlings
-Second City
-Upright Citizens Brigade
-Improv Olympic

Scene Study/Acting (It varies. Some schools are not for everyone. Chubbuck, Eric Morris, and Howard Fine are not for people who aren’t fans of Strasberg or Uta Hagen (ie. affective memory and substitution.) Playhouse West, Joanne Baron/DW Brown, and Acting Corps are more Meisner oriented. Try to audit these places and make sure if they’re for you or not.

-Doug Warhit
-Kimberly Jentzen
-Beverly Hills Playhouse
-Howard Fine
-Stella Adler
-Ivanna Chubbuck
-Joanne Baron/D.W. Brown

5. Get an Agent

To get an agent, you need to get GREAT headshots, a good resume, and training from the best. These are enough to get you a commercial agent at least. Getting a GOOD theatrical agent (Film/tv) takes longer. Most good theatrical agents won’t see you unless you’re SAG, have a polished resume, and a demo reel. Commercial agents are more lenient about that. What the best Commercial agents want to see on your resume are good commercial classes, improv, and cold reading.

You can get an agent multiple ways. Here are a few common ways:
-Mail in an unsealed manilla envelope with a CONCISE coverletter and headshot with the resume stapled on the back. If you have a demoreel include that too.
-Attend a showcase and impress them. By showcase I do not mean scammy conventions like IMTA, IPOP, Proscout, or Best New Talent. I mean legit ones like at Actor Connection, Reel pros, Network Studios, etc.
-Get a referral from a friend who is with the agency that you’re interested in

DON’T
-Email them unless they tell you to. IT’S UNPROFESSIONAL!
-Call unless they tell you to. ALSO UNPROFESSIONAL!
-Walk in and ask for a meeting. UNPROFESSIONAL THREE!
-Sign with them if they ask for upfront money, make you take new photos with THEIR photographer, or take THEIR classes. Agent’s ONLY make money when you do. Agents usually make 10% on film/tv and commercials and 20% on commercial print.

Where is the best location for oppurtunities in acting in movies and films?

April 212010

I want to be an actress, and be able to attend various auditions and be able o audition for diferent movies. I live in Canada but I’m pretty sure the states has better acting oppurtunities. At frist I thought L.A. but I’m afraid there’s to much competition, I’m not exactly sure. Any locations?

LA is not what people think it is. You best bet is Vancouver.

Do you prefer big hollywood movies or smaller indie films?

April 172010

I prefer indie films, because indie films still feel like real movies to me. They still care about story, acting, direction, cinematography ETC…everything that makes a movie!

Whereas big hollywood pictures just spit shit out to make money, dont get me wrong there is maybe a handful of big movies a year, but the majority do suck.

You?

If I had to choose, I would prefer independent films to blockbusters. Mainly for the same reasons that you already indicated. Indie films concentrate on the story and acting more because they don’t have the money for special effects. But all a good movie needs is a good story, good acting, and good direction.

Nowadays, it’s actually harder to make a good big budget film because of all the distractions caused by the special effects and all the money to play with. Just look at Transformers… not that Michael Bay was ever a brilliant director, but he was caught with a whole lot of money in the budget and sort of forgot there was a story to tell in 2 1/2 hours. But then give the big budget to someone like Peter Jackson and he’ll make gold.

That’s the main reason why the Oscar’s Best Picture nominees have been dominated by independent films. Not because the critics and the public prefer different films. It’s because special effects is usually a distraction for big budget films and it makes it twice as hard for a filmmaker to really focus on the story and not the explosions.

CS – Single Gaming 3: streL (Aries-Films) – HD

April 162010

http://www.themovievault.net/?video=1834

To start off I would like to congratulate Evgeny “MiX(eP)” Petuhov for winning this years Best Movie Competition Round 2. This movie is truly one of a kind and it shows for many reasons. The creativity in this film is far beyond many movies I’ve seen in the movie vault thus far and honestly, this movie kept me on the edge of my seat. With the immense amount of 3d work put into this film, Mix(eP) brought a lot of new creative ideas to the movie making table for years to come. The frags consisted of a slew of spray downs, wall shots, and flick shots, and synced very nicely to the easy going soundtrack. The amount of time and dedication in making this movie breathtaking is very much respected and the result for all of this is winning the competitions. Aries-Films should be proud and once again, congratulations.

April 152010

I have been assigned a project for school to hand in in a few weeks where we have to write as if we were a british soldier in the first World War. We have visited flanders to get a fell but i thought by perhaps watching a movie or two and reading some books about experiences etc, it would help me get an even better understanding.

What is the average salary of being a Director? (of films and movies and tv shows)?

April 132010

Also, why do you think it is important for there to be a director in the production of a film? Or do you think it is NOT important for there to be a director? thanks!! :)

I’ve seen some directors do it for free, on a local level that is. So the money can range from low to high. You have to love directing, and not just interested in becoming rich and famous. A director plays an important role after being hired by the producer. To learn more, try reading this:

Hope this helps.
