“Chhalia” or “Chhaliya” is a 1960 Hindi film. Directed by Manmohan Desai it stars Raj Kapoor, Nutan, Pran, Rehman and Shobhna Samarth. Raj Kapoor plays his almost patented “simple guy with a heart of gold” role again in this film. Laxmikant Pyarelal were assistant music directors in this film. They would go on to be music directors for most of Manmohan Desai’s films. Initially, Saif Ali Khan caused the controversy that the role was initially offered to him and eventually went to Kapoor. Later, Saif sent an apology to Shahid, to which Shahid replied, “If he has said something like that I appreciate it. I have always said that he is a very senior actor. He has been around for much longer than me.”
Priyanka Chopra as Sweety Shekhar Bhope, sister of underworld don, Sunil Shekhar Bhope, and love interest and pregnant with child of Guddu. Priyanka Chopra was initially reluctant to sign up, as she expected that movie would belong to double role playing Shahid Kapoor, but Vishal Bhardwaj convinced her as a challenge. Priyanka Chopra admitted that being a Punjabi girl herself, it was tough to play a simple Maharastrian in the movie. Being a middle-class, college-going girl, she wore minimal make-up.
Amol Gupte as Sunil Shekhar Bhope (Bhope Bhau), a Maharashtrian mafioso with political ambition. Amole Gupte had previously done minor acting assignments, including Ketan Mehta’s Holi. Initially when called up for the role, based on his previous acting jobs, he thought it to be a joke, but subsequently accepted the role.

The father and the daughter later go to Bombay to meet the boy and discuss about the marriage, but they are humiliated by his family members. They come across an owner of a music and entertainment company (Anil Kapoor) who has a strong affinity for the folk singers sngs and is enthralled by the beauty of the singers daughter. He promises to make Aishwarya a leading singer performer. As time passes by, Anil Kapoor falls in love with Aishwarya and they both decide to get married after a concert, but the girl realises that her heart yearns for her first love, Akshaye Khanna.
